Caregiver Resources
Hi my name is Karyn. If you’re on this page you probably received a letter with our blanket project. In 2022 my son was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma. Our journey through diagnosis and treatments were by far the most stressful years of my life. A year and a half after he completed treatment, we are still working on not living in fight or flight as we move into our healing journey. So I understand that caring for your child during this challenging period can be stressful and exhausting. To be honest, the only thing I could do in the hospital was care for my son or check out and play candy crush, watch tv or doom scroll.
I wanted to share something I wish I had known during my son’s treatment. It’s not possible to be stress free when going through this — however when you are home and able to rest, it’s really important to help your body relax, process emotions, and shift out of survival mode when you can. Learning these techniques made a huge difference for me when I learned them recently, and I hope they can do the same for you. Below, you’ll find some videos and resources that guide you through exercises to regulate your nervous system and move it back into rest and digest. I truly hope these tools are helpful and provide some comfort during this tough time. If there is any other support you need please reach out.
Being a caregiver can feel like you’re carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders.
Stress & Nervous System Regulation
I’d like to share some fantastic video resources created by my colleague, Sharlyn Schmitt from Heal and Regrow. These resources offer valuable insights into regulating the nervous system and processing emotions, especially beneficial in dealing with prolonged high-stress situations. Sharlyn, a Trauma Recovery Coach (and amazing person), provides these exercises as wonderful tools to learn from. If you ever feel the need for additional support, she also offers free consultations.
